Mining Difficulty

Description

Overview

This chart displays Kaspa's mining difficulty over time. Difficulty is a measure of how challenging the problem is that miners must solve in order to mine a block.

Difficulty is currently calculated using a sampled window approach. The current sampled window approach is defined in KIP-0004 and activated in Crescendo hard fork (at DAA score 110,165,000 on May 5 2025). As part of the Crescendo hard fork activation, difficulty was divided by a factor of 10, to recalibrate mining for 10 blocks per second. Prior to Crescendo, Kaspa ran at 1 block per second. This explains the sharp decrease on May 5 2025 in the chart.
